Integrating VR and generative AI in video games to create new experiences! The Interactive Design Department of Taipei Tech has launched various VR and generative AI games that incorporate diverse themes such as animal justice, war zones, and heartbreak. These games have won prestigious awards and been invited for exhibitions both domestically and internationally, showcasing Taiwan's technological prowess.
Among these, the games "Dark Comedy" and "Vanishing Star" both won gold and bronze in the Non-Typical Games category of the 2024 DC Award, respectively. The VR game "The Blinking Bullet" won a silver award in the Cross-Domain category of the 2024 DC Award and a special award sponsored by the Golden Pin Design Award. The generative AI game "Shan Hai Jing: Qiongqi" took home the Golden Pin Design Award for Digital Interaction Design. Additionally, cross-domain experience works "Water Form" and "Emotional Funeral" were shortlisted for the SIGGRAPH Computer Animation Festival in the US in July and invited to the Ars Electronica Festival in Linz, Austria, in September.
"Dark Comedy" is a VR game set in complete darkness, where players explore a fantastical space as a young boy. The core highlight is visualizing sound waves, requiring players to use various sound waves from different toys to scan their surroundings and navigate the exploration path.
"Vanishing Star" is a VR game with an American comic book style. Players take on the role of a medieval clown who, after leaving the circus, sells candy for a living. The game advocates for equality and the greatness of the ordinary, while also exploring animal justice from different perspectives.
"The Blinking Bullet" is a VR game seen from the perspective of a war correspondent, combining hand gesture detection and UE5 visual realism to create an immersive war zone experience. This game reflects on the value of war journalism.
"Shan Hai Jing: Qiongqi," incorporating generative AI technology, is an action role-playing game inspired by Chinese classical mythology and original narratives. It uses ChatGPT to create rich emotional characters with unique stories for interaction.
The cross-domain experience work "Water Form" aims to create an engaging immersive narrative experience. Utilizing water splashes, flow, gravity, wind, resistance, buoyancy, mechanical energy, and mist, it integrates VR and haptic technology for a five-sensory experience and mixed reality integration.
Another cross-domain experience work, "Emotional Funeral," is designed to help people overcome heartbreak by releasing resentment through a 49-day ritual, accompanied by AI specialists to listen and provide support, leading to emotional healing and rebirth.
